Focus

Churches these days seems to be filled with do's and dont's. They seem to focus on how to improve ourselves. And although nothing is wrong with this, I sometimes feel it is an inward focus. And Jesus is all about an outward focus. Forsaking ourselves for the sake of others.

Its true we all have many areas we could improve on. But wouldn't a better way of improving be, not to regulate ourselves, but to Love and care for those around us? Wouldn't it be easier to stop drinking too much, if you focused on the people you were hurting? Isn't that true for most things?

If we can get our churches to start looking outward, to start caring about those, not only in the congregations, but out in the world, the churches would have no choice but improve itself. It would quit being judgemental because it would see how it hurt others. It would quit being hypocritical cause it would see the damage it does. The church, and the individuals in it, would begin to see that their witness is hampered by their faults. And if the church is truly following Jesus (not all do), they would begin to improve on these faults so they can serve those in need. That is the real lesson of Christ. To forsake ourselves in order to serve those in need by showing them the way to the greatest Joy and Peace they will ever know. Jesus.
